Step back in time at the Brunswick Railroad Museum. Our third floor
offers a number of railroad exhibits telling the history of the
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in this area. Moving on from the exhibits,
you find yourself facing our huge HO Scale model railroad layout. The
layout represents Brunswick's 5 mile railyard - at one point the
largest in the country - and the B&O RR's Metropolitan Subdivision
from Brunswick to Union Station in Washington D.C. during the 1960s.
Of course the layout isn't all the museum has to offer! On the second
floor you find our social exhibits, which tell the history of
Brunswick and take you back to see a glimse of what life was like for
many of the thousands of railroad workers here around 1900. From the
styles of clothes and furniture to gatherings, social life, stores,
education, and medicine, you'll find a strong contrast to what life is
like now.
On our first floor, children can spend some time in the Pete Harper
Hands on History Activity Room while you browse our museum store which
offers a number of Museum, railroad, and canal themed items including
shirts and hats, videos and DVDs, toys and puzzles, mugs, various
souvenirs, and even collectables and antiques. The Museum is also an
authorizedWalthers dealer and stocks a number of model trains while
also taking custom orders. And don't forget about our Whistlestop
Cafe, available for rent most days that the museum is open!
While on the first floor you might also visit the National Park
Service's Brunswick Visitor Center for the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal
National Historic Park. The C&O towpath and Lock 30 are within
walking distance of the museum.
Just because you've completed your museum tour dosn't mean your visit is over! There are many shops and restaurants downtown to browse through and enjoy, including:

If your looking for something more history or railroad related to top off your visit to the museum, theres more to do within driving distance. Of course as always you can sit by the Train Station here in town and watch the active CSX mainline with about 70 trains every 24 hours. The trains can also be watched from the Historic Point of Rocks Station, or from the newly restored Harpers Ferry Station. Harpers Ferry also offers a number of museums and exhibits featuring civil war history and the famous John Brown's Raid which took place there. Also nearby is the Harpers Ferry Toy Train Museum and Joy Line Railroad featuring a collection of historic model trains and a miniature ride on train! If train rides are your thing, you might also want to look into the Walkersville Southern Railroad in Walkersville MD, which offers a short but very scenic train ride south from Walkersville.
We hope you will come visit us soon! If you have any questions you may call the museum at 301-834-7100 or email us at Contact@Brrm.net. Please allow a week for email replies. Information on Cafe rentals may be aquired by calling or emailing as well. Please schedule rentals at least two weeks in advance.
